The horse itself appears to be black or very dark brown. Its head and neck are covered in silver chainmail barding (horse armor), with a red accent on the top of its head. The horse is equipped with a black saddle, over which a white, draped cloth or mantle is placed. The rear part of the horse is covered with a white caparison or cloth, which features a large black cross pattée (a cross with arms narrowing towards the center and flared at the ends) on each flank.
The horse is posed on a sandy surface with a piece of dark wood or a log to its left. The background is dark and appears to be a stone wall.
