Introduction
This image displays a group of four toy minifigures representing different soldiers and officers from both the Allied and Axis forces during World War II. Each figure comes with a unique printed tile that highlights their historical context.
Top Left: General Omar Bradley
This figure represents General Omar Bradley, a senior U.S. Army commander. He is shown in his field uniform, wearing an M1 Helmet with the three stars of a Lieutenant General and the First U.S. Army shoulder patch. He holds a tile commemorating the D-Day invasion of Normandy, an operation in which he was a central commander, responsible for the American landings on Omaha and Utah beaches. He was famously known as the “G.I.’s General.”
Top Right: RAF Flight Sergeant
This figure is a Royal Air Force (RAF) Flight Sergeant. He is depicted in classic WWII flight gear, including a leather flight helmet, goggles, and a yellow “Mae West” life vest. His rank of Flight Sergeant is shown on his sleeves. He holds a tile celebrating the Royal Air Force and its iconic Spitfire fighter plane. This figure is representative of “The Few” who defended Britain during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
Bottom Left: Free French Soldier
This figure represents a Free French soldier from the later period of the war (1944-1945). He is shown in American-supplied equipment, including an M1 Helmet with a French Tricolore flag decal. He holds a tile featuring the Cross of Lorraine, the symbol of the Free French forces led by General de Gaulle, and the motto “France Forever.” This soldier represents the French forces that were re-equipped by the Allies and proudly fought to liberate their homeland.
Bottom Right: German U-boat Corporal
This figure represents a German U-boat Corporal of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy). He wears the dark blue pea coat and overseas cap of a submariner and has the U-boat War Badge pinned to his chest. He holds a tile for the “U.BOOT Waffe” (U-boat Arm). This figure represents one of the volunteer crewmen who fought in the perilous Battle of the Atlantic, facing extremely dangerous and claustrophobic conditions on long war patrols.
