The Figure: WWII Polish Army Medic (Sanitariusz)

This toy minifigure represents a Combat Medic of the Polish Land Forces during the invasion of Poland in 1939 (World War II). He is equipped to provide first aid on the front lines while wearing standard infantry protective gear.

  • Headgear: He wears the dark green Wz.15 Adrian Helmet.

    • Key Feature: The front of the helmet displays the painted White Eagle (Orzeł Biały), the national coat of arms of Poland. This specific marking allows for immediate identification of the soldier’s nationality.

  • Medical Insignia (The Red Cross):

    • Arm Patch: On his left sleeve (“Side – Left” view), there is a distinct Red Cross on a White Square. This international symbol protected medics under the Geneva Convention and identified his non-combatant role to friend and foe.

    • Medical Satchel: The printing on his torso features a brown leather satchel/pouch with a small Red Cross symbol on it, indicating it contains bandages, morphine, and field dressings.

  • Uniform: He wears the standard Polish Khaki Field Tunic.

    • Collar Tabs: Like the other soldiers in this series, he sports the Blue Zig-Zag Collar Patches (Patki), identifying him as attached to an infantry unit.

  • Gear: In addition to the medical bag, he wears brown leather “Y-straps” (webbing) and a belt with ammunition pouches (medics were often armed for self-defense).

  • Face: The figure has a printed Mustache, giving him a mature, veteran appearance.

Historical Background: During the September Campaign of 1939, Polish medics faced overwhelming casualties as the Wehrmacht invaded from the west and the Soviets from the east. Despite the chaos, Polish medical services (Służba Zdrowia) worked tirelessly to treat the wounded in the field. They wore standard uniforms but were distinguished by Red Cross brassards (armbands), which are represented here by the sleeve print. The use of the French Adrian helmet was common among these support troops.
