Introduction
This image displays a group of four toy minifigures representing leaders from various state and paramilitary organizations in Nazi Germany during the World War II era. Each figure is depicted in a different uniform with specific insignia.
From left to right:
SA or Hitler Youth Adult Leader: This figure is dressed in a tan-brown tunic, famously known as a “brownshirt,” with black trousers and a beret. He wears the standard Nazi Party (NSDAP) armband and a brown leather officer-style belt with a cross-strap. This uniform is iconic of the SA (Sturmabteilung), the original Nazi stormtroopers, but was also worn by adult leaders within the Hitler Youth, representing the adult cadre that supervised the youth members.
Hitler Youth Leader: This figure represents a youth leader from the Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend, or HJ). He is wearing the black service uniform of the organization with a matching peaked field cap. His affiliation is shown by the specific Hitler Youth armband (red with a white stripe and swastika) and the HJ diamond emblem on his cap and chest.
Reich Labour Service Leader: This figure represents a leader from the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD), the Reich Labour Service. He wears a grey service uniform and an M43-style cap. His organization is identified by the unique RAD insignia on his collar tabs and shoulder straps, which feature a black, red, and white pattern. The RAD was a compulsory labor service that became an important auxiliary and construction force for the German military during the war.
Artur Axmann, Reich Youth Leader: This figure represents Artur Axmann, the highest-ranking leader of the Hitler Youth during World War II. He is shown in his specific tan high-leader’s uniform, consisting of a tan peaked visor cap, a four-pocket tunic, and black trousers. His uniform is adorned with the Hitler Youth armband and the Golden Hitler Youth Honor Badge on his breast pocket. Artur Axmann (1913-1996) held the title of Reichsjugendführer (Reich Youth Leader) from 1940 to 1945. He was responsible for the complete militarization of the Hitler Youth and directed its members’ involvement in the German war effort, culminating in the use of teenage boys as soldiers in the final defense of Berlin.
