After their costly victory in the invasion of Crete in 1941, they were primarily employed as elite ground infantry, rushed to critical sectors of the front. They were renowned for their tenacity and high morale, famously defending Monte Cassino in Italy and fighting in the Battle of Normandy. This figure, armed with a Panzerfaust, represents one of these elite paratroopers in their role as a “tank hunter” (Panzerknacker) during the desperate defensive battles of the later war years.
