Introduction
This image displays a group of three toy minifigures representing soldiers from different, famous divisions of the British Army during World War II. Each figure is depicted in the standard khaki uniform and equipment of a British “Tommy.”
From left to right:
- 7th Armoured Division (“Desert Rats”): This figure represents a soldier from the renowned 7th Armoured Division, nicknamed the “Desert Rats”. He is dressed in a khaki drill uniform suitable for the North African Campaign where the division earned its fame. He wears a Mk II Brodie helmet and is armed with a Sten submachine gun. The “Desert Rats” were one of the most famous British formations of the war, fighting across the deserts of North Africa in pivotal battles like El Alamein, and later in Italy and the campaign to liberate Northwest Europe.
- 2nd Infantry Division Medic: This figure is a medic of the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) attached to the 2nd Infantry Division. His role is clearly marked by the Red Cross emblems on his Brodie helmet, his medical haversack, and the hard-shelled medical kit he is carrying. As a non-combatant, he is unarmed. The 2nd Division was a veteran formation that fought in the Battle of France, was evacuated from Dunkirk, and later fought with distinction in the brutal Burma Campaign against the Japanese.
- Private, 50th Infantry Division: This figure represents an infantry private from the veteran 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division. He wears the standard khaki Battle Dress uniform, a Brodie helmet, and is equipped with Pattern 1937 webbing. He is armed with the standard-issue Lee-Enfield rifle. The 50th Division was a highly experienced unit that fought in North Africa and Sicily, and is most famous for being one of the key assault divisions that landed on Gold Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
