This is a custom clothing accessory for a toy minifigure, representing a German Wehrmacht M31 Zeltbahn worn as a poncho from the World War II era.
This accessory is a single piece of cloth designed to replicate the appearance of this iconic piece of field gear. The most important feature is the camouflage pattern, known as Splittermuster 31 (Splinter Pattern ’31’). This was one of the first military camouflage patterns to be widely issued. It consists of a light tan background with overlapping geometric “splinters” of green and brown, all overlaid with a pattern of thin, vertical green lines known as “rain streaks,” which were intended to further break up the soldier’s silhouette. The Zeltbahn itself was a highly versatile item made of water-repellent material. While designed as a shelter-quarter (four could be combined to make a tent), its most common use by an individual soldier was as a poncho for camouflage and protection from the rain. Printed over the camouflage pattern are details of the soldier’s field equipment, including leather Y-straps, a belt, a canteen, and a bread bag.
