This is a custom-made accessory for a toy, designed to represent a German Wehrmacht 200-liter fuel drum from the World War II era.
The accessory is a cylindrical barrel shape in a standard olive-green military color, with reinforcing rings around the body. The top surface is highly detailed with printed text that identifies its contents and owner. The text reads:
- “200L” for 200 Liters, its volume.
- “Kraftstoff,” which is German for “Fuel.”
- “Feuergefährlich,” which is German for “Flammable.”
- “Heer,” which is German for “(Land) Army.”
Historical Background: The 200-liter (or 55-gallon) drum was a standardized and essential container for the bulk transport of fuel and lubricants for all mechanized armies of World War II. Germany’s Blitzkrieg strategy was entirely dependent on the speed of its Panzer divisions, which required a massive and constant supply of fuel. Drums like this would have been transported by the thousands via train and truck to forward supply depots to keep tanks, trucks, and other vehicles of the German Army (Heer) running. As vital and highly flammable assets, these fuel dumps were a prime target for enemy air attacks and artillery. This seemingly simple barrel was a critical logistical component of modern warfare.
