This is a custom-made accessory for a toy, representing a German double-baffle muzzle brake from a World War II era tank cannon.
This distinctive device was fitted to the end of the barrel of some of the most powerful and feared German tank and anti-tank guns. Its primary function was to reduce the immense recoil force generated when the high-velocity cannon was fired. It worked by redirecting a portion of the escaping propellant gases sideways and slightly backward through the large openings, which helped to counteract the rearward push of the gun.
This specific double-baffle design is famously associated with legendary German cannons like the 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56 gun on the Tiger I heavy tank and the 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun on the Panther medium tank. The presence of this muzzle brake was a clear visual indicator of a tank’s formidable firepower, making it an intimidating sight on the battlefield.
