Introduction

These custom building block minifigures represent a mix of WW2 German Foreign Legion (Ostlegionen) volunteers and a Waffen-SS soldier from the late stages of the Second World War.

WW2 Armenian Legion Submachine Gunner (Far Left)

The first figure on the far left represents a soldier of the Armenian Legion. He is dressed in a German Feldgrau (field grey) tunic with distinct red collar tabs, paired with black trousers and black boots. On his head, he wears the highly practical field grey M43 field cap (Einheitsfeldmütze). His most identifying feature is the shield-shaped arm patch on his right sleeve featuring the red, blue, and orange stripes of the Armenian national flag. Uniquely, he is armed with a captured Soviet PPSh-41 submachine gun with a drum magazine. Historically, the Armenian Legion was part of the Ostlegionen, formed primarily from Soviet Armenian POWs who volunteered to fight for Germany. Because of severe late-war supply shortages, German forces heavily utilized captured Soviet weapons like the highly reliable PPSh-41 for close-quarters combat, making this loadout highly historically accurate.

WW2 Armenian Legion Infantryman (Center Left)

The second figure from the left is another soldier of the Armenian Legion, but outfitted as standard frontline infantry. He wears the full Feldgrau uniform and the M43 field cap, but features standard green collar tabs instead of red. His lower legs show printed canvas gaiters (Gamaschen) over low ankle boots, a classic sign of late-war German leather shortages. He is heavily equipped with printed Y-strap suspenders, Kar98k ammunition pouches, and a pistol holster on his belt. Like the first figure, he bears the Armenian national arm shield on his right sleeve. He is armed with the standard German Karabiner 98k (Kar98k) bolt-action rifle. Historically, these soldiers were fully integrated into the Wehrmacht’s supply chain, receiving standard-issue German weapons and field gear while fighting on the Eastern Front, driven either by anti-Soviet sentiment or simply the desire to survive the brutal POW camps.

WW2 Georgian Legion Infantryman (Center Right)

The third figure from the left represents a frontline soldier of the Georgian Legion. He wears a very similar Feldgrau tunic and M43 field cap to his Armenian counterparts, but his tunic features red collar tabs. The critical distinguishing detail is his arm shield patch on the right sleeve, which features a dark red background with black and white horizontal stripes in the corner—the historical flag of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. He is equipped with a black waist belt holding brown leather Kar98k ammunition pouches, wears canvas gaiters over his boots, and carries a Kar98k bolt-action rifle. Historically, the Georgian Legion was another major component of the Ostlegionen. They wore standard German field grey but were strictly required to display their national shield to denote their specific ethnic origin within the massive German war machine.

WW2 German Waffen-SS Soldier in Camouflage (Far Right)

The fourth figure on the far right stands out distinctly, representing a Waffen-SS Soldier in late-war summer combat attire. He wears a classic grey Stahlhelm (steel helmet) featuring a red Nazi party shield decal on the left side. Instead of a wool tunic, his upper body features a lightweight teal/green summer fatigue shirt held up by printed white suspenders. His lower half is the most historically significant, featuring trousers printed entirely in the complex, multi-colored M44 Erbsenmuster (Pea Dot 44) camouflage pattern. Historically, the Waffen-SS pioneered the widespread use of camouflage. The Pea Dot pattern was introduced in 1944 to replace earlier smocks with a standalone two-piece uniform to save material. This figure perfectly captures the mixed, rugged, and non-standardized appearance of German troops fighting in the grueling summer heat during the final collapse of the front lines.
