Unlike the single-barreled version, this model features a quadruple barrel configuration (four barrels arranged in a square), which is its most defining characteristic. Background: The Flakvierling 38 (meaning “Flak Quadruplet”) was the ultimate evolution of the German 20mm anti-aircraft gun during World War II. As Allied aircraft became faster, the single Flak 38 was not fast enough. To solve this, German engineers mounted four Flak 38 cannons onto a single carriage. This weapon could pump out a devastating 1,400 rounds per minute (theoretical), creating a wall of fire. It was widely used on ships, trains, and fortifications, and was also terrifyingly effective against ground troops.
