Introduction
This image displays a collection of four toy minifigure sets, all representing German Luftwaffe (Air Force) ground combat personnel from World War II.
The figure in the top left (N629) is a German Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) tank hunter. He is wearing the M38 paratrooper helmet with a Splittermuster (Splinter Pattern) camouflage cover and a matching camouflage smock (Knochensack). He is armed with a Panzerfaust (“Pzf”), a disposable anti-tank rocket launcher, which was a devastating weapon against Allied tanks. The set also includes an alternate Luftwaffe overseas cap. This figure represents an elite airborne soldier fighting as ground infantry in the late-war defensive battles.
The figure in the top right (N630) is a Luftwaffe Ground Forces NCO. He wears a standard Stahlhelm and an olive-green field tunic (which could represent a jump smock) with a light blue harness and tan ammunition pouches. He is armed with the MP 40 submachine gun, the standard weapon for squad leaders. The set includes an alternate blue-grey Luftwaffe beret, which was famously worn by elite ground units like the Hermann Göring Division.
The figure in the bottom left (N631) is a German Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) Machine Gunner. He is clearly identifiable by his M38 paratrooper helmet and his Luftwaffe Splinter Pattern camouflage smock. He is armed with the formidable MG 42 (Maschinengewehr 42), nicknamed “Hitler’s Buzzsaw” for its high rate of fire. The Fallschirmjäger were elite troops who, after the Battle of Crete, fought exclusively as ground infantry, and their squads were centered around the firepower of the MG 42.
The figure in the bottom right (N632) is a Luftwaffe Ground Forces Rifleman. He wears a weathered Stahlhelm and a tan field uniform with the Luftwaffe eagle on his breast. He is armed with the standard-issue Karabiner 98k (Kar98k) rifle and comes with an alternate Luftwaffe M43 field cap. This figure represents a soldier from a Luftwaffe Field Division, which were units formed from surplus air force ground crews to fight as infantry on the Eastern Front from 1942 onwards.
