This image displays a toy minifigure representing SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, a high-ranking SS and police general in Nazi Germany, depicted here in his grey service uniform and without his glasses.
The figure is dressed in the standard field grey (Feldgrau) service uniform of the Allgemeine SS or Waffen-SS. He wears a grey SS officer’s peaked visor cap (Schirmmütze) with silver officer piping and the SS-specific insignia: the SS eagle and the Totenkopf (death’s head).
His tunic is highly decorated, reflecting his high rank. It features the ornate shoulder boards and collar tabs of a senior SS-General (Obergruppenführer), the Nazi Party armband on his left arm, and a cuff title on his sleeve. His decorations include the German Cross in Gold and the Iron Cross First Class, among others.
Historical Background: Reinhard Heydrich (1904-1942) was one of the most powerful and feared leaders within the Nazi regime. He was a principal architect of the Holocaust. As the chief of the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA), his authority covered the Gestapo, Kripo, and the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) (the SS intelligence service). Heydrich famously chaired the Wannsee Conference in January 1942, which formalized the plans for the “Final Solution.” He was assassinated in Prague in May 1942 by Czechoslovak soldiers. While the black M32 uniform is more famous, this grey uniform was the standard service and field attire for the SS, including Heydrich, during the war years.
