This item is a toy helmet accessory for a minifigure, representing the iconic helmet worn by a soldier of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army’s elite 87th Division during the Second Sino-Japanese War (c. 1937).
The helmet is a detailed replica of a German M35 Stahlhelm (steel helmet). In the 1930s, as part of the Sino-German cooperation, the Republic of China imported military equipment from Germany to modernize its army. The best Central Army units, such as the 87th Division, were issued these advanced German-made helmets, which provided superior protection compared to other helmets of the era.
To distinguish these helmets for Chinese service, a decal was applied to the side. This accessory accurately features that decal: the Blue Sky with a White Sun emblem, which was the national insignia of the Republic of- China and the symbol of the Kuomintang (KMT).
This specific helmet is a powerful and historically significant symbol of the elite, German-trained Chinese divisions that fought in the early stages of the war against Japan, most famously during the Battle of Shanghai in 1937.
